In 2013, Matt sparked a gaming revolution with the establishment of Kapow. It all began with his extensive retro video game collection, featuring over 1,000 cartridges and CDs along with a variety of consoles and computers spanning four vibrant decades of gaming history. His enthusiasm for retro gaming blossomed into an online presence, captivating friends and fans alike through engaging YouTube videos and lively Instagram posts.
As Matt delved deeper into the world of retro gaming, he noticed a shift in modern gaming culture, which began to stray from the communal joy of arcades and the thrill of multiplayer sessions with friends. Determined to rekindle the spirit of classic gaming experiences, he focused on building his collection while fostering a growing online community.
A pivotal moment came when he was approached by Jimmy Dean of James Dean Events Ltd., who invited him to showcase a selection of games, consoles, and arcade machines at the festival "Back 2 the 80’s & 90’s." The response was overwhelming—Matt's gaming tent buzzed with excitement, welcoming a throng of festival-goers eager to relive the nostalgia of retro gaming. This electrifying experience motivated Matt to transform his passion into Kapow Events, blending music and gaming into one unforgettable journey.
Fast forward to today, Kapow Retro Gaming has evolved into a prominent name in the industry, partnering with up to 30 events each year, ranging from local pubs and clubs to large-scale festivals, outdoor events, and comic conventions. With a decade of memorable entertainment under their belt, Kapow has delighted hundreds of thousands of people and is gearing up for the busiest year yet.
